Camping gear: the Adventure Package
Available only with Christchurch pickup. Add the Adventure Package when you book a Camping Jimny or Christchurch Jimny.
Rooftop tent
Sleeps two. Easy to set up and pack down. Fits on the Jimny roof.
Kitchen kit
Gas stove, Jetboil, cooking gear, camping chairs, and dinner set.
Fridge
12V fridge to keep food and drinks cold on the road.
Sleeping gear
Sleeping bags and pillows available as optional extras. Ask when you book.
Pickup and drop-off
Christchurch pickup. Collect your Jimny from our Marshlands base (612 Marshlands Road, Christchurch) — about 15 minutes by Uber from Christchurch Airport. This is the only location where the Adventure Package (rooftop tent and camping gear) is available. You can drop off in Christchurch or Queenstown. One-way drop-off to Queenstown is available by arrangement.
Queenstown pickup. Collect your Jimny near Queenstown Airport. Queenstown vehicles do not include rooftop tents or camping gear. You can drop off in Queenstown or Christchurch. One-way drop-off to Christchurch is available by arrangement.
24/7 lockbox pickup is available at both locations so you can collect at a time that suits your flight or schedule. We send exact instructions after you book.
Winter driving
Snow chains are available for an additional $50 per booking. Add them in the booking process when you reserve — especially if you are travelling in winter or through alpine areas where chains may be required. We can advise on routes and conditions when you book.
Gravel and unsealed public roads are allowed year-round. Off-roading (tracks, private land, beaches) is not permitted. Drive to the conditions and follow local road signs.

Renting a Jimny for our first trip through the South Island in NZ was the best decision we've ever made! The experience was amazing! The Jimny had everything we needed and it was so easy to open up and pack up. Grace and Adam were super easy and professional to communicate with. 10/10 would recommend! Can't recommend highly enough! Picked us up from the airport and dropped us off. They made everything easy. The Jimny is perfect for a couple to explore New Zealand. In its fun to drive and capable to get you anywhere with less worries than driving a car. For example, you have to ford 9 streams to get to Rob Roy Glacier Track, I was very comfortable doing that in a Jimny rather than a Prius. Its small which is a plus for fuel efficiency and on narrow lanes of some of the roads. We drove over 2000 miles during our two weeks in NZ and I'd pick a Jimny from Grace and Adam again when we hopefully come back!
All I can say is we had a great experience with Jimny NZ. Collection and returning of the car was straight forward and super easy. Adam and Grace were prompt in their replies and helpful! The condition of the car was excellent and we had no problems driving all around south island.
Funny enough we got attached to the car after spending 12 days with it and got sad when it was time to return it. A jimny in Singapore costs $150k!! So getting a taste of it in NZ has been a dream come true!
Nevertheless, if you're travelling as a couple, I'd highly recommend renting out a jimny from Jimny NZ to explore south island!
Hired 2 door Jimny (N04) with rooftop tent + equipment for a two week South Island adventure in 2025. Fantastic little car and no dramas getting around and so easy to park! Did the full loop from CHCH to Lake Pukaki, Dunedin, Milford Sounds, Wanaka, Nelson, Kaikoura, and then back to CHCH. Tent, equipment, and Jimny all functional and clean. Adam and Grace were wonderful to interact with.
We had a great time with the Jimny a real easy fun car to drive and cheap as chips to run will be hiring again to do the Rainbow thanks guys your customer service is the best
